The 278th ACR Tennessee National Guard Emblem

The 278th is headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is the only enhanced Armored Cavalry Regiment in the National Guard and one of only two in the United States Army. With units located throughout East and Middle Tennessee, the regiment is rich with the volunteer tradition which is a vital part of the history of Tennessee, "The Volunteer State".

The regiment was called to active duty and mobilized as the 278th Regimental Combat Team. Mobilization training was completed at Camp Shelby, Mississippi in November 2004 and they are currently deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 278th Regimental Combat Team includes units from Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Vermont.

The 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment has an exceptional history and lineage reaching back to the founding of our country. Generations of Militia and National Guardsmen from the Regiment have served this country in all its wars with distinction for over 200 years.
